Waste
Food recovery and waste management are important parts of the food system. About half of the food that is produced is consumed, and the rest enters the waste stream. To reduce waste, the production and distribution components of the food system can be made more efficient, food packaging can be reduced or eliminated, compostable materials can be diverted from the disposal system, and edible food can be redirected.
